Mailchimp Integration with ChilliDB

Edited: Sep 6

With Mailchimp integration you can create distribution lists that are synced between ChilliDB and Mailchimp. You can even turn integration on for existing lists which automatically uploads the contact data to mailchimp, avoiding the need to manually import data. All unsubscribe requests and bounces are reflected automatically in ChilliDB.

Turning on MailChimp Integration with ChilliDB: ----------------------------------------------------

1. Sign up at https://mailchimp.com 2. Login to Mailchimp and create an API Key.

For this, go to the "Account" page by clicking your username in the top right corner of the screen. Now go to "Extras" => "API Keys". Click “Create a key” and copy this value.

Now In ChilliDB:

3. Go to "Manage System Configuration" page under "System" -> "System Management" -> "Manage". 4. Find "Mailchimp Apikey" setting and paste the API key into the “value” field

Creating a MailChimp List -------------------------------

In ChilliDB:

1. Create or edit a distribution list 2. Tick “MailChimp List” checkbox 3. Enter "Campaign From Name" which will be a default sender name for a campaign email. 4. Enter "Campaign From Email" which will be a default sender email for a campaign email 5. Enter "Campaign Subject" which will be a default campaign email subject. 6. Save the distribution list

The distribution list and the contact’s first and last names, emails and subscription status will be uploaded to MailChimp.

Any change made in ChilliDB will update mailchimp and vice versa. The exceptions to this are changing the “from name”, “from email” “email subject” and distribution list name from MailChimp. Updating any of these in MailChimp will not update ChilliDB, it is recommended that you only use ChilliDB to change these fields. Also note that you cannot create contacts in ChilliDB using mailchimp, or subscribe contacts to ChilliDB using mailchimp.

If you would like to create more than 1 integrated list, you will have to upgrade to a paid

Mailchimp account, please see their site for details https://mailchimp.com/pricing/

Sending Emails from MailChimp -----------------------------

Emails can be sent to subscribers of your distribution lists from MailChimp by clicking campaigns at the top left then the “create campaign button” located on this page. For more detailed information on sending emails please see the help located on the MailChimp website.

Turning off Mailchimp Integration with ChilliDB ----------------------------------------------------

1. Login to Chillidb and go to "Manage System Configuration" page under "System" -> "System Management" -> "Manage"

2. Find the "Mailchimp Apikey" setting and remove the value from the setting.

  • You may encounter scenarios where you are emailing recipients who share the same email address. The way this is handled depends on whether mail merge tokens are used in the email or not. Mail Merge Tokens are Used The email is sent out to each recipient as the email content may differ for each one. Mail Merge Tokens are not Used Only one email sent to each unique email address. • Message templates are used to quickly reuse common emails and maintain consistency with your email structure. Email tokens across multiple different modules are available to personalise your message for each recipient. Message templates are created under Utilities > Message Templates > Create. You will first be asked to give a categorisation, name and description for the message template. Then provide the details of the message including the type of template (either email or SMS), categorisation used when the message is stored as a note, and the subject of the email/sms. Message templates are sent from the send message menu under 'Send Email Using Template' or 'Send SMS using template' Templates can also be loaded from the send message screen by selecting the 'Use Templates' link under the actions menu Was this article helpful?
  • ChilliDB can track if your Messages are being opened or not through the "Track Open" checkbox on the "Tracking Options" section of the Send Message window. These checkboxes are shown by clicking the 'Show Tracking options' link from the actions menu. When each email is sent out, we automatically add a piece of code that requests a tiny, invisible image from our web servers. So when a reader opens the email, the image is downloaded, and we can record that download as an open for that specific email. The opened status of the email can be checked by viewing the note created after the email was sent. It is important to understand that the open rate is not a 100% accurate measure. Recording an 'open' can only happen if the reader's email client is capable of displaying HTML with images, and that option is turned on. So if you are sending text-only emails, there is no way to record open rates. Similarly, people reading your HTML email without images showing will not be recorded as opens. Another issue is that your readers may have a preview pane in their email client. That preview pane might be displaying your email automatically (and therefore downloading the images) without the reader ever having to click on it or read it. So you should never take your open rate as a hard and fast number, because you can never know the true figure. It is much better used as general guide, and as a way of measuring the trends on your email campaigns. Was this article helpful?
